ABOUT ME My name is Jennifer Everitt but you can call me Cori. I live in Rankin County with my husband and 6 month old son. For the past 6 years, I have worked at Morton Elementary teaching Kindergarten ELL kids English. This past year, we added art to our specials classes and I was excited to be their teacher! I received my Bachelor Degree from Mississippi College in Studio Art and am currently a MAT student here at Southern Miss. My goal is to be a certified art teacher. I do not feel comfortable putting too many personal details on this site so if you really want to get to know me, find me on Facebook. My passions include theatre, volleyball, and art. I'm also a cat lady.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY I am currently working toward becoming a certified art teacher. Therefore, my teaching philosophy is: Let Them (children) Create. Schools use too much technology. There, I said it. Please don't crucify me. But that's just how the world is turning right now. With technology constantly changing, kids need to take a break once in a while. That's where art should come in. They need to collaborate with each other; they NEED social interaction! They need to be KIDS. I let my students talk in class. Taboo, I know. But art is all about learning from each other, helping each other, and just using your imagination. I don't believe students should be glued to iPad or computer screens all day; it's bad for their eyes.
TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM Technology can play a role in art. I will use technology as a way to show students things like animals we are drawing, famous artists and their works, and even introduce students to graphic design or animation. All of this will depend on the art budget I get when I start my career as an art teacher. Technology won't be the first thing I ask for though. Students need paper and materials first and chances are they already have a phone so they could look things up on their own or in groups.
BLOGFOLIO The purpose of this blogfolio is to learn, observe, and report back to you what I have learned in this course as the summer goes along. It is sure to be a learning experience as I am not a tech guru.
